Adriano Zumbo & VOGUE Fashion's Night Out, Sydney (9 Sept 2010)

http://fashionsnightout.vogue.com.au

Adriano ‘Freakin’ Zumbo

While entering the newly renovated MidCity Style Space I overheard a shopper saying ‘Adriano Freakin Zumbo’ which I fondly remember Adam Liaw saying on MasterChef when the famed dessert maker walked into the MasterChef kitchen for a pressure test. Adriano’s complimentary treats were being freely given out throughout the shopping centre while he demonstrated to a large crowd of fans in a very squeezed space how to make the perfect macarons for his macaron tower. Thanks to Caroline Bligh from Cav Con for alerting me to this special event. I managed to try two of the mini desserts which were a Cherry Pistachio Cheesecake one and a Chocolate Coffee one — the staff serving them to me didn’t quite know what they were. I unfortunately didn’t get a chance to try any of the macarons or the one with the spoon in it because staff near the preparation area just held them up high and briskly took off to serve at other levels of the shopping centre — I’ve yet to try his macarons.

This event was part of the inaugural VOGUE Fashion’s Night Out in the Sydney CBD which was staged concurrently in 18 cities including New York, London, Milan, Paris, Madrid and of course Sydney. Martin Place was buzzing with free Lindt chocolate samples and free hair styling by John Frieda hairdressers while the threatening wet weather held up. Many of the supporting boutique designer shops provided free drinks to walk-in customers including Emporio Armani where I enjoyed a lovely campari and orange juice cocktail while perusing a fluoro pink cotton t-shirt for $160, or was that $180. Plenty of eye-catching live models became window displays amongst the Block Party between Martin Place, Market Street, George Street and Castlereagh Street. I look forward to next years event.

SNAPSHOT REVIEW:
PROS: Free food sampling and drinks to be had, Party atmosphere, Interesting window displays of live models, Fashion-a-plenty
CONS: Weather permitting, Crowded at times
MUST TRY: Visiting more shops next year
